Baba Yaga is the Old Crone of the Woods in Slavic folklore, famous for living in a cottage that dances about on one chicken leg; She is a complex Goddess Who can be evil, helpful, or ambiguous depending on the story. She rides through the forest in a great mortar, rowing through the trees with a matching pestle; in Her other hand is a broom, with which She sweeps away Her tracks.

She is said to have three horsemen who ride in Her forest; the first, on a white horse, brings daybreak; the second, on a red horse, brings the sunrise; and the third, on a black horse, the night.
