Eileithyia is the ancient Greek Goddess of childbirth and midwives; She has roots that go back to Minoan, even Neolithic times, which isn't surprising given how fundamental childbirth is. In Mycenaean times Her name in Linear B was E-re-u-ti-ja (L and R were not differentiated in that script), and there is plenty of debate on whether Her name is Greek or pre-Greek. She was associated with a cave at Amnisos on Crete.
