 
Tiamat is the primeval Mother of the Waters in Sumerian religion, Who gave birth to the first of the Gods. She is a creation Goddess, though also a Goddess of chaos, out of which creation comes. In some representations She is shown as a great sea serpent or dragon. She was later slain by the God Marduk, and from Her body was made earth and the heavens.
